Necotrans was awarded the transport of oversized live trees from Thailand to Qatar

Necotrans operated the transport of 2,000 oversized live trees by road and sea transport, from Thailand to Qatar.

This oversized logistics operation illustrates Necotrans’ ability to diversify its activities, outside the African continent. What was this transport about?


Necotrans in Singapore and Thailand, was recently awarded the transport of 2,000 live trees, for a volume of 40.000 cubic meters from Thailand to Qatar. This operation belongs to a landscaping project for a mega resort complex construction and accommodation, located in the desert of Doha (Qatar). This project is fully integrated in the preparation of the Qatar hosting the 2022 FIFA Football World Cup.


The operation happened between the 14th October and 14th November, period during which the local teams transported all the trees from the farms, located 300 km north of Bangkok, to a storage area of not less 8,000 square meters, inside the port of departure of Laem Chabang, in Thailand. To that purpose, 10 to 15 40’ flatbed trailers have operated day and night during 2 weeks for a safe and efficient transfer.


In a second time, the bulk cargo Ocean Hope, a handysize cargoship, was chartered for the sea freight part. The ship, with a 32,000 tons dead weight capacity, and a total length of 180 meters, was loaded at jetty during 5 days and night, and then sailed to Doha where it arrived on the 30th November. The loading, stowage and lashing was entirely performed by Necotrans teams in Thailand.




The multimodal transport of these live trees between two continents, required the greatest attention of Necotrans’ teams based in Asia and Europe.


This operation was made sensitive and complex due to the nature of the cargo handled, since the ship chartering was done without knowing precisely the dimensions of the trees, the quantities and volumes being estimated earlier at the tender stage.


This executed mission highlights the excellent coordination between the teams based in Thailand, Singapore, Switzerland and at headquarters, in sourcing the ship and quickly assessing the business risks. The success of that operation has already opened door to future collaboration with the same client over 2017.
